Welcome to the 24th Season of The Showboat Festival
Theatre, Ontario’s only professional summer theatre-in-
the-round. For 2010, the team at Showboat is offering
up a season of laughter and music, sure to tickle your
funny bone, get your toes tapping and perhaps bring a
tear to your eye. We kick off with Mom’s Country
Record Collection, a new musical featuring familiar
tunes. A funny and heart-warming story of a young
woman returning to her childhood home and
reconnecting with her dad, this world premiere show
features the music of Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell,
Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, and many more of your
favourite country artists from the 1960s and 70s.
Next up is Richard Alfieri’s hit play, Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks, the story of an imperious older woman taking private lessons from an acerbic dance instructor. This witty and touching comedy has wowed audiences around the world, from Broadway to London’s West End. Our third production for 2010 is Sitting Pretty, a musical about a man who loses everything and sets off to find himself. Written by Norm Foster (Looking, The Love List, The Foursome, Storm Warning) with music by Steve Thomas (Jasper Station, The BBQ King), this wonderful show is guaranteed to raise the roof with music and laughter. Our final production is the classic comedy, The Owl And The Pussycat. This tale of a bookish writer and a loudmouth prostitute trying to share a small apartment and get along in spite of their differences was a smash hit on Broadway and a successful movie starring Babra Streisand and George Segal.
I am thrilled to be in Port Colborne for another year of fun and laughter at The Showboat Festival Theatre and I look forward to seeing you at our unique theatre-in-the-round at The Roselawn Centre. Showboat Festival Theatre: a season of love, laughter and music in 360 degrees. Come to the play.
